Improving heavy vehicle vision around vulnerable road users

This project is investigating impediments to heavy vehicle drivers’ ability to see vulnerable road users (including pedestrians, cyclists, and e-mobility users).

Evidence gathered in the project will help develop a vision assessment framework for heavy vehicles, mainly operating in urban areas, to assess the visibility of vulnerable road users from truck cabins and will suggest solutions, including aftermarket technologies that could be fitted.

The Truck Industry Council is engaging in this project to ensure there is a consistent focus on developing of solutions based on best practice and evidence and also firmly grounded in real-world implementation for heavy vehicle drivers and truck operators. An Expert Advisory Panel that includes experts from areas such as construction, waste and utilities will provide regular input and ensure recommendations are practical, relevant and feasible.
