The Australian Automobile Association, in partnership with FuelTrac Pty Ltd, provides a fuel price report every month.
Using this report you can compare the price at the pump for unleaded, premium unleaded, diesel and LPG fuels across all capital cities in Australia, for the last 13 months.
There are a host of factors that make up the price of fuel at the bowser. In June 2020, the cost of the actual refined petrol product made up around 28.7 per cent of the average pump price.
Another 46.6 per cent of the price was made up of taxes. This includes the Federal Government’s fuel excise, which imposes a tax of 42.3 cents per litre (not indexed in August 2020), and 10% GST.
In June 2020, wholesale and retail costs made up the remaining 24.7 per cent (Source: ACCC).
