The Australian Automobile Association, in partnership with FuelTrac Pty Ltd, provides a fuel price report every month.
Using this report you can compare the price at the pump for unleaded, premium unleaded, diesel and LPG fuels across all capital cities in Australia, for the last 13 months.
There are a host of factors that make up the price of fuel at the bowser. In March 2021, the cost of the actual refined petrol product made up around 41.1 per cent of the average pump price.
Another 39.7 per cent of the price was made up of taxes. This includes the Federal Government’s fuel excise, which imposes a tax of 43.3 cents per litre (indexed August 2021) and 10 per cent GST.
In March 2021, wholesale and retail costs made up the remaining 19.2 per cent (Source: ACCC).
