The Australian Automobile Association, in partnership with FuelTrac Pty Ltd, provides a fuel price report every month.
Using this report you can compare the price at the pump for unleaded, premium unleaded, diesel and LPG fuels across all capital cities in Australia, for the last 13 months.
There are a host of factors that make up the price of fuel at the bowser. In December 2020, the cost of the actual refined petrol product made up around 34.5 per cent of the average pump price.
Another 42.7 per cent of the price was made up of taxes. This includes the Federal Government’s fuel excise, which imposes a tax of 42.7 cents per litre indexed February 2021, and 10 per cent GST.
In December 2020, wholesale and retail costs made up the remaining 22.8 per cent (Source: ACCC).
