LATEST FUEL PRICES

Using this report you can compare the price at the pump for unleaded, premium unleaded, diesel and LPG fuels across all capital cities in Australia, for the last 13 months.

WHAT IS IN A LITRE OF PETROL?

There are a host of factors that make up the price of fuel at the bowser. In September 2022, the cost of the actual refined petrol product made up around 56.7 per cent of the average pump price.

Another 21.3 per cent of the price was made up of taxes. This includes the Federal Government’s fuel excise, which imposes a tax of 47.7 cents per litre (indexed February 2023) and 10 per cent GST. On 30 March 2022 the Federal Government temporarily halved the fuel excise rate (23.0 cents per litre) until 28 September 2022.

In September 2022, wholesale and retail costs made up the remaining 22.0 per cent (Source: ACCC).
