Independent MPs back transparent, accountable road funding
Two independent MPs – Kooyong (VIC) member Monique Ryan and ACT Senator David Pocock – are the first politicians to endorse the AAA’s My Safety Counts campaign, calling on political candidates to produce data supporting road funding promises.
“I’m very happy to support this,” Dr Ryan told the AAA via email.
“It’s a great initiative which fits well with both my interest in road safety and health and my interest in transparency around government spending.”
Senator Pocock has been a long-term supporter of transparency of road safety data.
His endorsement of the My Safety Counts campaign for data transparency and evidence-based road investment follows last week’s release of Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics figures revealing ACT crash fatalities rose by 233.3% over the year to 28 February 2025.
