Retirement of Warren Truss

11.2.2016

The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) today thanked outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals Leader Warren Truss for his service and commitment to the betterment of Australia’s transport system.

AAA Chief Executive Michael Bradley said: “For more than a quarter of a century Mr Truss has been an effective and passionate advocate and Australians are wealthier and safer as a result.

“Mr Truss served on the Kingaroy Shire Council for more than a decade prior to entering Federal Parliament which clearly provided him a unique understanding of the issues governments face regarding road funding, building and maintenance.

“That kind of on-the-ground knowledge was evident in the 2015–16 budget which saw Mr Truss announce a doubling of Roads to Recovery funding from $350 million to $700 million. It’s a fine legacy for Mr Truss to leave his political successors and regional Australians in particular.

“Whatever the road ahead holds for Mr Truss and his family, the AAA and our member clubs wish him all the best and we thank him for his service.”
