Progress on Fuel Price Board Transparency

7.11.2013

The peak national motoring organisation, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), has welcomed progress on developing a national standard for fuel price boards.

"Drivers deserve increased fuel price clarity and transparency so they can better determine the real price of fuel," AAA Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

The Federal Minister for Small Business, Hon. Bruce Billson, has today announced that at their meeting in Brisbane, state and territory consumer affairs ministers have agreed to work towards a national standard for fuel price boards.

"This is welcome progress on an issue the motoring clubs have been advocating for on behalf of members for some time," Mr McKellar said.

"Many motorists are being misled or confused by price boards that don't clearly display the actual price of fuel," he said.

"A review of fuel price boards will also help reinforce much needed competition in the marketplace by creating a fairer playing field for smaller operators," Mr McKellar said.
