Motorists concerned over alleged shopper docket breaches
The peak national motoring body, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), has expressed concern that Coles and Woolworths have allegedly breached their undertaking on shopper docket discounts and supports ACCC court proceedings.
"We are concerned over any possible breaches of this undertaking because ultimately it is the consumer who loses out," AAA Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.
"Motorists understand that excessive shopper docket discounts are not an act of goodwill and that they will damage competition and cost consumers in the long run".
"It is encouraging that the ACCC has demonstrated its determination to safeguard the interests of consumers and to promote more effective competition in the fuel market," Mr McKellar said.
"Motorists deserve strong competition in the retail fuel market and we will be monitoring these proceedings with interest," he said.
