Memo To Woolworths: Booze And Fuel Don’t Mix
The Australian Automobile Association (AAA) is concerned supermarket giant Woolworths is being irresponsible by offering special fuel discounts for people who buy cases of beer or pre-mix spirits.
"This is a step too far," AAA Executive Director Andrew McKellar said.
In its latest catalogue, Woolworths is offering customers discounts of 30 cents a litre of fuel at its service stations but only if they buy two cases of beer or pre-mix spirits.
"It's troubling that anyone would link drinking and driving, particularly so close to the holiday season when we see so much tragedy on our roads," Mr McKellar said.
"This discount is well above what is offered on normal grocery items and I would urge Woolworths to start taking a shared responsibility on road safety," he said.
