Coalition Commitment to Perth Infrastructure Welcomed
The peak national motoring organisation, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), says the Federal Coalition's commitment to invest in two major transport infrastructure projects in Perth will help ease congestion.
"The people of Perth deserve better quality roads and less congestion," AAA Executive Director Andrew McKellar said.
The Federal Coalition has today announced it will commit $1.3 billion to build the Swan Valley Bypass ($615 million) and the Perth Gateway ($686 million).
"There has been rapid expansion in Perth in the past few years and it's clear the transport infrastructure isn't coping," he said.
"The commitment to the Swan Valley Bypass restores the funding model to an 80:20 split between the Commonwealth and the state, bringing this vital project a major step closer to being finalised as soon as possible," he said.
"I urge all Australians to make transport infrastructure a major vote deciding issue this election," Mr McKellar said.
The AAA and constituent clubs launched the Demand Better Roads campaign to make transport infrastructure a major issue for the upcoming election – more information at www.demandbetterroads.com.au
