Australia's Best Cars 2014 – Winners Announced

The peak national motoring organisation, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), and member clubs have announced the winners of this year’s Australia’s Best Cars awards at a national launch in Brisbane.

“The winning vehicles have performed the best in their respective categories against tough competition,” AAA Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

“These awards aim to influence the new car market by challenging brands to continually lift their game in terms of safety, performance and affordability standards,” he said.

“The list of winners will assist motorists through the often difficult process of filtering through the vast array of choice when they are buying a new car,” Mr McKellar said.

Changes to the Australia’s Best Cars program in 2014 include:

  • A new category of Micro Cars to recognise their growing popularity
  • A change from People Movers to Family Wagons
  • A revamp of the SUV and 4WD categories to reflect the changes in the marketplace

“The judges have had the difficult task of narrowing down the 45 finalists to 15 winners,” Chief Judge Mark Borlace said.

The winner of the Best Medium Car over $50,000, the Mercedes-Benz C200, was also recognised as the ‘Judges’ Choice’ for 2014.

“This car performed well in all areas making it a benchmark vehicle which will influence the direction of its competitors,” Mr Borlace said.

“The introduction of the micro cars category and a change to small SUVs has not only recognised the change in the market place but addresses affordability issues by evaluating cars which are smaller and more cost effective in fuel, servicing and size,” he said

The results will be made available by the motoring clubs and on the Australia’s Best Cars website –
