Australia's Best Cars 2014 - Finalists Announced

22.10.2014

Australia's motoring clubs have announced the finalists for this year's Australia's Best Cars awards.

The announcement of the 45 finalists follows extensive assessment of 220 cars in 15 categories ranging from micro cars to large four-wheel-drive vehicles.

“The program is Australia’s most independent evaluation of value for money, design and function and on road performance of new vehicles,” Australian Automobile Association Chief Executive Andrew McKellar said.

There have been some changes to the categories this year with the introduction of Micro cars, a change from People Movers to Family Wagons and a revamp of the SUV and 4WD categories.

“These changes have been made to ensure the program reflects changing preferences in the new-car marketplace,” Mr McKellar said.

The category finalists range in price from under $20,000 for the Mitsubishi Mirage ES, to more than $120,000 for the Range Rover Sport and use various powertrains including petrol, diesel and hybrid energy.

“Purchasing a new car is a major decision and we hope our assessment will make it a little easier for the consumer,” Mr McKellar said.

The Australia’s Best Cars judges have experience in automotive engineering, vehicle testing and motoring advocacy.

“The judges have spent all year reviewing the vehicles, including an intensive week of back-to-back testing, to come to the tough decision of agreeing on three finalists for each category.” Australia's Best Cars Chief Judge Mark Borlace said.

“Our research into each car will give consumers all the information they need to compare against their personal criteria and make the process of buying a new car less intimidating,” Mr Borlace said.

The winners will be announced at a national event in Brisbane on 25th November. The results will be made available by the motoring clubs around Australia and on the Australia’s Best Cars website – www.australiasbestcars.com.au.
