ANCAP

The Australian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP)
The Australasian New Car Assessment Program provides consumers with independent information on the level of safety provided by vehicles in the event of a serious crash. ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian and New Zealand governments, all Australian state governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.

AusRAP

The Australian Road Assesment Program (AusRAP)
AUSRAP aims to reduce deaths and injuries on Australia's roads by systematically assessing risk and identifying safety deficiencies that can be addressed with practical road improvement measures. AusRAP has two standard protocols - risk mapping of casualty crashes and a star rating system using a road protection score. The program is supported by all the AAA's constituent motoring clubs, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Australia's Best Cars

Australia's Best Cars
Each year, Australia's top motoring experts put the most popular cars through their paces in 500 kilometres of rigorous road tests to determine Australia's Best Cars. The cars, ranging from small to luxury and 4WDs, are tested on some of the country's harshest roads and measured on a range of criteria, including handling, safety, security and value. The establishment of the award follows the successful merger in 1999 of former NRMA and RACV car award programs.

Keys 2 Drive

Keys 2 Drive
keys2drive is a concept developed by the Australian Automobile Association and its constituent clubs, building on RACWA's existing keys2drive program and RACV's Parent Plus Program. The Australian Government has committed $17 million over five years to develop and implement the program nationally.

Statistically, learner drivers are the safest drivers on the road. But the moment they begin solo driving, their risk increases significantly. The keys2drive program aims to improve driver safety by helping P platers drive for six months without hurting themselves or others, building a foundation for a life of safe driving. The keys2drive coaching approach is designed to provide a learning experience that is more real, more thorough and more attuned to the reality of licensed driving. The keys2drive program comprises three central initiatives:

  • The free lesson - keys2drive provides a free lesson, introducing our innovative approach, for learner drivers in Australia.
  • Accreditation of driving instructors - keys2drive is a professional development and accreditation program for the driving instruction industry. More and more instructors will gain access to these techniques.
  • Online support - the keys2drive website is a rich central portal of information, advice, activities and games. It's designed to guide learner drivers, parent/supervisors and driving instructors through the learning experience.

Each element of the program will be closely evaluated for effectiveness and improved continuously over the coming years.
