Report Dangerous Roads
Hazards to Look Out For
A summary of road condition nominations
Nearly one in three respondents to the SaferRoads website invitation for public nominations of poor road conditions throughout Australia, have to date nominated inadequate or non-extent street signage, street lighting and poorly signed, poorly signalized or poorly designed intersections, or roundabouts as their greatest road concerns.
Over a quarter of complaints feature poor, unsealed, broken, narrow or non existent shoulders and narrow roads concerns, indicating those motorists issues with roads in outer suburban and rural areas. Another quarter of respondents have nominated poor road surfaces, road side hazards, such as trees planted too near roads or signs too near roads, and the lack of proper line and edge marking as indications of poor roads servicing motorists.
These national figures differ from state to state. For example, in South Australia, nearly half the respondents complain about road surfaces, poor signage and lighting issues, inadequate or non existent edge/line marking and intersection/roundabout issues and, over one in three are concerned about poor shoulders and narrow roads and bridges. A feature of SA respondents is the relatively high number of respondents that refer to roads in outer suburban or rural areas of the state.
In Victoria by contrast, intersection/roundabout issues are the greatest concern followed by poor signage/lighting (42%). While over one in three respondents express concern about narrow roads poor shoulders, road side hazards and road surfaces conditions. |
