About Safer Roads

SaferRoads is a diverse coalition representing motorists, medical practitioners, the transportation industry, local governments and others concerned about improving road safety for all Australians.

In conjunction with the World Health Organisation's World Health Day: Road Safety in 2004, we will be working to drive home to policy makers the need for safer roads.

A key aim of SaferRoads is to shift the focus of road safety away from being a narrow transport issue, to being one of preventable health, with enormous impact across Australian society.

Great attention has been paid to vehicles and driver behavior, but we now need to focus on improving the one area over which we have the greatest control, roads, and make travel safer for everyone. By making roads more forgiving in a crash, we can help to reduce the impact road trauma has on individuals, families, work places, hospitals, and society generally.
